Class Description:
Take the mystery out of color mixing and theory. Unravel dulling, saturation, contrast, and intensity. In this 4-week class, you will create your own color reference using neutrals and primary colors.
Class size limited to 6 (six) people.

Students will need:
- a smooth Bristol Board Pad at least 11” x 14”
- empty clean jars to store paint
- to wear clothing that can get dirty
Materials provided: (if you want to bring extras of the below items please, do)
- Mixing trays
- flat paint brushes
- round paint brushes
- water containers
- scissors
- rubber cement
- matte board for mounting color chips
- tempera paint
Optional: Smock or apron
Week 1: mix at least two tints and two shades of each primary color; begin mixing secondary colors as well as two tints and two shades. (Discuss tints and shades as well as complementary and split complements color)
Week 2: continue mixing secondary and begin tertiary color mixing to include the two tints and shades of each (Discuss analogous color, warm vs cool, dulling a color)
Week 3: changing intensity of one of the primary colors and its complement, then creating a full value scale (Discuss intensity, saturation, and laws of color contrast)
Week 4: finish painting then mount color chips to create personal color wheel
About MaryAnn:
MaryAnn Goodhue completed her BFA in Sculpture from Augusta University in Georgia in 1988 and in 1993 received her Bachelor of Science in Art education from the University of Nebraska.
Since graduating, she has worked as an artist and art educator sharing her love of creating with students of all ages, teaching in Alabama, Virginia, Texas, and Nebraska. Goodhue’s paintings have been featured in a number of publications as well as being accepted into numerous juried exhibitions throughout the United States.
