It is with great sorrow that we announce that our friend and artist, Peggy, has passed away. We have Peggy’s work available at the Gallery, for the forseeable future, at the discretion of her family.
After living throughout the United States and in Copenhagen, Denmark Peggy now calls Montgomery, Alabama home. While living in Denmark, she traveled extensively throughout Europe visiting art galleries, museums and historical sites. In addition while there she worked for the State Department as the Community Liaison Officer at the American Embassy. After returning to the States, she worked at Auburn University Montgomery as the Graphic Designer and subsequently in the AUM Department of Fine Arts as full time Graphic Design faculty.
Always an organizer and doer she participates in several arts organizations. She has been a long time member of the Montgomery Art Guild, serving on its Board of Directors including a 2-year term as MAG president. In addition she has membership in the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, several state watercolor societies throughout the South. Peggy has earned Signature Silver Member status in the Watercolor Society of Alabama and Signature Member status in the Georgia Watercolor Society and the Tallahassee Watercolor Society.
For many years Peggy worked in sculpture, printmaking and mixed media. Now she works primarily in watermedia. She enjoys photography as an art form and uses many of her photographs in her works. Her work has been added to many private and corporate collections including those of the Royal Greenland Trade Co., Copenhagen, Denmark; the Caddell Corporation, Montgomery, Alabama; and Auburn University Montgomery School of Nursing, Montgomery, AL. Peggy’s art is currently being shown at SACs Gallery and by appointment at P.M. Brown Studio, Montgomery, AL, and on her website: PeggyMilburnBrown.com
Colorful patterns, abstract shapes and dramatic shadows always attract my eye. I am drawn to these qualities. These beautiful, exciting moments that I see in the botanicals I grow or sights I see while traveling enrich my life and my art. The play of the late afternoon sunlight enlivens objects with radiant colors, patterns and deep shadows which catch my attention and present ideas worthy of paper, paint and brush. I paint in a realistic style with a strong graphic and impressionistic basis. Capturing these rich moments and passing them on for others to enjoy is what I strive to accomplish with my watercolors and mixed media.
