Annual Members Art Competition Awards

Call for Artwork!

SAC’s Gallery is hosting the 41st Annual Member’s Show & Competition.

This is a judged show with monetary awards and ribbons for members of the Society of Arts & Crafts. The show is in remembrance of Nell Hardeman, the founder of this competition.

Important Dates

Entry Deadline

  • Entries must be brought to SAC’s Gallery on Thursday, March 24th, or Tuesday, March 29th, between 12noon and 4pm.

Reception and Awards Presentations

  • Reception: Sunday, April 3rd, 2022, from 2pm to 4pm
  • Awards: Sunday at 2:30pm

Exhibition

  • The exhibit will be on display at SAC’s Gallery through the month of April. Gallery hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12noon to 5pm.

Entry Pickup Deadline

  • Entries need to be picked up at the Gallery on Tuesday, May 3rd, from 12noon to 4pm.

Competition Rules

  • All entrants must be Society of Arts & Crafts Members (if not, current $35 memberships may be purchased at turn-in).
  • Fees: $10 per entry. Limit of 6 entries per artist, with a limit of 4 entries per category.
  • Works MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN 2018 OR LATER and must not have been entered in previous Members’ Shows.
  • Artists must be at least 18 years old.

Artwork Categories

Entries will be accepted in five categories:

    1. Opaque Painting
      • Oil, Acrylic, Gouache and 2-D Mixed Media1Mixed Media pieces may contain photographs ONLY if they are NOT the full base of the artwork; i.e., pieces of photographs may be used or full photographs that are clearly visible as photographs and are only a portion of the artwork.  appropriate for this category
    2. Works Traditionally on Paper
      • Watercolor, Drawing, Pastels, Original Prints, 2-D Mixed Media2Mixed Media pieces may contain photographs ONLY if they are NOT the full base of the artwork; i.e., pieces of photographs may be used or full photographs that are clearly visible as photographs and are only a portion of the artwork. appropriate for this category
    3. Photography and Computer-Generated Works
      • Including Enhanced Photography3Works using a photograph as a base and enhanced with other media are considered Enhanced Photography and must be entered in Category 3 Photography.
    4. Three-Dimensional Works
      • Sculpture – Stone, Metal, Wood, Clay, etc.
    5. Fine Crafts
      • Jewelry, Fiber Art, Sewing & Needlework4Quilts and similar fiber arts may exceed the 48” limit, but we reserve the right to fold or hang as space permits., Pottery, Woodworking, Fine Crafts, etc.

Discretion of Show Judges

  • Gallery/Judge’s discretion may be applied if category placement is in question.
  • Gallery/Judge reserves the right to reject artwork that is inappropriate to display at the Gallery.

Restrictions

  • THERE IS A 48” SIZE LIMITATION, including framing.
    • See exception for quilts & similar fiber arts.
  • There is a 48”x48” size limitation on 2-D works, and a 36”x24” footprint limitation on 3-D works.
  • Triptychs and other multi-piece works must fit within the 48” size limitation.
  • If we run out of space, the show will be juried to fit the space available.
  • 2-D Entries must be framed or gallery wrapped (no giclées), and must have a wire for hanging (no saw tooth hangers).

Awards & Prizes

  • Best in Show and 1st-3rd places in all categories will receive appropriate rosettes and monetary awards.
  • Prize amounts will be based on the number of entries.
  • Ribbons will be awarded for Honorable Mentions.

Additional Details

  • The Society and its members are not responsible for any loss or damage.
  • A commission of 30% of sales will be taken.
